Fall New Member Class Hosts Self Esteem Program
The fall 2009 provisional class partnered with the Boys and Girls Club of Meriden to present “Growing Strong: From Girls to Women,” a workshop aimed at developing successful women by promoting positive body image, college preparedness and volunteerism in teenage girls.

The workshop took place on Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and was attended by approximately 30 girls ages 12 to 18 who are currently attending the Boys and Girls Club of Meriden. The girls participated in three, forty-five minute seminars—College Preparation, Body Image and Volunteerism—facilitated by members of the provisional class.

The workshop included an informal breakfast and lunch for all participants and featured several guest speakers. Dr. Andrea Silber of Saint Raphael Medical Center opened the day with a talk on the importance of asserting personal responsibility over one’s body and the relevance of cancer risk prevention methods. The day concluded with feature keynote speaker, Diana Barros, the creator of BudgetBabe.com. A professional photographer was also on hand to take complimentary individual and group portraits of the girls as mementos.
