New Haven School Cooperative Project |
|
Begun in 2004, the Junior League of Greater New Haven's School Cooperative Project is designed to help bridge the achievement gap among area schoolchildren through a variety of educational activities, programs, and support. As part of the project, the Junior League partnered with Timothy Dwight Elementary School from 2004 to 2008 and with Clarence Rogers Elementary School from 2008 to the present.
In recent years, league members have...
- conducted "read alouds" with classes
- held one-on-one reading sessions with individual students
- hosted nutritional education activities as part of the Kids in the Kitchen initiative
- supported school contests such as the “Book Bowl,” "Paw Prints," and "Rain Forest" incentive reading programs
The Junior League has also financially supported cultural and educational experiences such as...
- a Junie B. Jones play
- the Mystic Seaport traveling exhibit
- the Connecticut Science Center traveling program
- the Hands on Space program
- the WTNH Weather Station
- Sounds of Africa
In addition to these activities, the League is working to establish a functioning library at Clarence Rogers School.
