Junior Leaguers Volunteer with the Conecticut Food Bank |
Sorting Food for the Hungry
To celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, on January 16 members of the Junior League of Greater New Haven spent their Saturday morning at the Connecticut Food Bank's East Haven warehouse sorting donated food that will be distributed to the area's soup kitchens and hungry families.
Food donated by local grocery store chains is delivered in large palates to the warehouse and must be sorted and examined before it can be used. Junior League members checked for expiration dates and missing labels, and divided liquids items from dry items. Ten volunteers pitched in to sort through over six large palates of donated food.
