The Junior League of Greater New Haven is dedicated to working in partnership with other community organizations. Through the years the League has initiated and developed a number of successful programs in the Greater New Haven area, often i collaboration with local non-profit organizations. Many of these programs have been adopted by cities and towns where the programs have continued to grow.

The Junior League contributes to the Greater New Haven community in different ways. The League reviews community needs and develops programs that try to address those needs. It collaborates with other organizations to provide a service or to raise money for a specific cause. League members also participate in smaller, targeted projects which can vary in length from one day to a few months.

As a training and service organization, the Junior League teaches its members to be organized and effective volunteers. The League recognizes the importance of cultivating community leaders and has developed programs and strategies to fulfill this responsibility. Historically, many of the women respected for their contributions to and leadership within the Greater New Haven community were also members of the Junior League.

Junior League members address issues of concern through state and national legislative networks, by monitoring legislation and lobbying issues concerning women, children and volunteers.

The Junior League of Greater New Haven is open to women of all races, religions and national origins who share a dedication to voluntarism. A member might expect an average time committment of four to five hours a week. No sponsorship is required to join this chapter.

Through the Junior League's internal committee work and external volunteer activities, League members are able to develop personal and business relationships, both inside the League and with members of the community. The Junior League is unique in this integration of professional, personal, and social opportunities for women in the New Haven area. The League's network of Active members, Sustainer members and community friends provides the encouragement for women to get involved in activities and programs that interest them, and provides support for many varied undertakings.
