Welcome to the Junior League of Greater New Haven |
President's Message
Founded in 1923, the Junior League of Greater New Haven is a not-for-profit women's volunteer organization that has sought to effect positive change in the Greater New Haven community by promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and supporting the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.
Any woman committed to improving her community, regardless of race, religion, or national origin, is welcome and encouraged to join the Junior League of Greater New Haven. Through workshops, guest speakers, and experiential training, the League organizes and trains over 135 active and sustaining members for effective action and leadership in the Greater New Haven community. The training our members receive through their volunteer service with the League enables them to become positive agents of change in the community within their own businesses, schools, and nonprofit organizations.

League Sponsors Children's Health Fair |
|
On Wednesday, April 28, the Spring Provisional class hosted a Health and Fitness Fair for the children and families of the New Haven YMCA, providing fun, interactive and educational stations for kids, parents and families. More than 105 individuals attended the fair to learn about healthy food choices, take part in some fun physical activities, and spend time together as families.
In addition to making their own healthy trail mix, trying veggies with dip and creating beautiful yogurt parfaits, kids were able to roll their own sushi with help from the chefs at Miya, taste-test delicious smoothies courtesy of Well on Wheels and enjoy vegan cookies from My City Kitchen. With generous donations from Subway and Primo Pizza, participants also enjoyed healthy sandwiches and a variety of whole veggie pizzas – the eggplant pizza was “blazin!” according to one young attendee!
To augment the healthy and delicious foods, kids were able to try Zumba with Marissa Baglini Kaempffer, participate in relay races and had a mean hula-hoop contest.Much to the parents’ approval, kids were also able to get photo ID’s through the Amber Alert booth provided by the Rotary Club of Hamden. The event ended with a fun raffle, stuffed goody bags and cries from the kids for the Junior League to come back soon.To see what people are saying about the event and about the Junior League of Greater New Haven, visit http://wellonwheels.blogspot.com/2010/04/kids-in-kitchen.html.
