President's Message

Welcome to the Junior League of Greater New Haven!

ashikabrinkleyFounded in 1923, the Junior League of Greater New Haven is a not-for-profit women's volunteer organization that has sought to effect positive change in the Greater New Haven community by promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and supporting the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers.

Any woman committed to improving her community, regardless of race, religion, or national origin, is welcome and encouraged to join the Junior League of Greater New Haven. Through workshops, guest speakers, and experiential training, the League organizes and trains over 135 active and sustaining members for effective action and leadership in the Greater New Haven community. The training our members receive through their volunteer service with the League enables them to become positive agents of change in the community within their own businesses, schools, and nonprofit organizations.

Junior Leaguers Volunteer with the Conecticut Food Bank

Sorting Food for the Hungry

food-sort7-jan10To celebrate the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, on January 16 members of the Junior League of Greater New Haven spent their Saturday morning at the Connecticut Food Bank's East Haven warehouse sorting donated food that will be distributed to the area's soup kitchens and hungry families.

Junior League Hosts Food Drive with New Haven Symphony
hunger-awareness-nhso-dec09bSpearheaded by League members Sarah Viglione, Julia Chaffe and Stefanie Cunningham, the League partnered with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra (NHSO) to host a food drive benefiting the Connecticut Food Bank.  The team collected over 200 pounds of food during the NHSO's concerts on December 11 and 12. Pictured are Natalie Forbes, Executive Director of the NHSO, and Julia Chaffe.

Haiti: How You Can Help

A Message from AJLI Regarding the Earthquake in Haiti

We begin the year 2010 with the news of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. On Tuesday of this week, an earthquake measuring 7.0 struck outside the capital of Port-Au-Prince. As the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, where many live on less than $2 per day, Haiti's needs are dire. News reports tell of the destruction of buildings and infrastructure, of a possible death toll in the hundreds of thousands, and an estimated 3 Million people impacted.
